En les zones Mediterrànies els ambients aquàtics acostumen a ser molt canviants, depenent sovint de les precipitacions. En aquests ambients viuen els Cames llargues (Himantopus himantopus) a Doñana. El nostre company Jordi Figuerola va estudiar les dades d’anellament i lectura d’anelles fetes a Doñana des dels anys 80. A més, va estudiar una font encara poc utilitzada per fer estudis científics: els registres dels comitès de rareses (en aquest cas del Regne Unit: British Birds Rarities Committee). Per últim, va relacionar aquestes dades amb la pluja caiguda a Doñana i amb l’índex NAO (que es una mesura global del clima que ens afecta a Europa).
El que va veure és que els Cames llargues emigraven de Doñana en anys secs, i a més, les conseqüents davallades poblacionals es veien positivament correlacionades amb les cites de Cames llargues al Regne Unit i amb l’índex NAO. Per tant, el temps climatològic pot modificar les ganes de dispersar-se dels individus. Això és molt important per espècies que viuen en ambients fluctuants com aquests, però, possiblement, encara ho serà més si les prediccions d’un declivi de les precipitacions en la zona mediterrània pel futur immediat es compleixen.

Anillamiento en Doñana y citas de pájaros raros en el Reino Unido
En las zonas mediterráneas, los ambientes acuáticos acostumbran a ser muy cambiantes dependiendo de las precipitaciones. En estos ambientes, viven las cigüeñuelas (Himantopus himantopus) en Doñana. Jordi Figuerola estudió los datos de anillamiento y lectura de anillas hechos en Doñana desde los años 80. Además, estudió una fuente todavía poco utilizada para hacer estudios científicos: los registros de los comités de rarezas (en este caso del Reino Unido: British Birds Rarities Committee). Por último, relacionó estos datos con la lluvia caída en Doñana y con el índice NAO (que es una medida global del clima que nos afecta en Europa).
Lo que vio es que las cigüeñuelas emigraban de Doñana en años secos, y además, los consecuentes declives poblacionales se veían positivamente correlacionados con las citas de cigüeñuelas tanto en Reino Unido como con el índice NAO. Por lo tanto, el tiempo climatológico puede modificar el deseo de dispersarse de los individuos. Ello es muy importante para las especies que viven en ambientes fluctuantes como éstos. Y puede que lo sea todavía más si se cumplen las predicciones de un declive de las precipitaciones en la zona mediterránea en el futuro inmediato.
